The National Youth Authority (NYA) has disclosed that over 150,000 Ghanaians have enrolled in its National Apprenticeship Programme, surpassing the anticipated 10,000 for the first phase of the initiative.
According to the National Youth Authority, this oversubscription demonstrates the enthusiasm of Ghanaian youth to seize the opportunities offered by the National Apprenticeship Programme.
In an interview with Citi News on Tuesday, June 24, during a meeting with master craftsmen to discuss skills development in Ghana, Deputy CEO for the NYA, Jacob Adongo, noted that applicants are currently undergoing registration and assessment, with training set to commence in July to equip individuals with various apprenticeship skills.
“The young people of this country are very resilient; they are not lazy, and all they need is opportunity, and this type of opportunity has been made available. We want you to take advantage of this opportunity and learn. Strike very hard, let us reduce the alcohol intake, drugs and take advantage of the opportunity,” he advised.
Jacob Adongo further stated that programme participants will receive stipends for transportation and be provided with start-up kits to encourage and motivate them.
