The Ghana Police Service is dispelling claims that it’s deployment of 5500 personnel for the Akwatia by-election is intimidating residents in the constituency.

According to the Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, Assistant Commissioner of Police Grace Akrofi, the heavy police deployment in Akwatia by-election us not to intimidate voters but to rather give them full protection as well as residents living in the constituency.

She emphasised that the deployment of 5,500 police personnel in Akwatia by-election would be able to man all the 119 polling stations in the 21 electoral areas which had been divided into nine zones to provide absolute security to residents and voters before, during and after the polls.

She made this statement while addressing the media after a show of force by the police today, Sunday August 31 in Akwatia.

Touching on numerous police check points along the roads, ACP Akrofi indicated that was part of the security arrangements to effectively control access to make sure that the police would be able to conduct routine checks where necessary.
