Mahama nominates Prof Asuming, Henry Wampah, three others to Fiscal Council

President John Dramani Mahama has nominated five individuals to serve on Ghana’s Fiscal Council.Ghanaian cultural guide

The nominations, announced in a statement issued by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, on Wednesday, April 8, are part of efforts to strengthen fiscal discipline and enhance oversight of public finances.

According to the statement, the nominations were made pursuant to Section 11D of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921), as amended by the Public Financial Management (Amendment) Act, 2025 (Act 1136).

The Fiscal Council is expected to play a critical role in promoting transparency, accountability, and prudent economic decision-making.

The list of nominees is led by Dr. Emmanuel Oteng Kumah, who has been designated as Chairperson of the Council.

Dr. Kumah is joined by Professor Patrick Opoku Asuming, who will serve as the representative from academia, bringing extensive experience in economic research and policy analysis.

Also named is Leslie Dwight Mensah, who has been selected to represent a research think tank, adding a policy-oriented perspective to the Council’s work.

J. Kweku Bedu-Addo, a former public policy expert from the Finance Ministry, has also been nominated, alongside Dr. Henry Akpenamawu Kofi Wampah, a former public policy expert from the Bank of Ghana.
