The Member of Parliament-elect for Akwatia, Bernard Bediako Baidoo, has expressed gratitude to his constituents, attributing his victory to the confidence the people reposed in the National Democratic Congress’(NDC) message.

He also thanked God for the outcome, noting that the win was a result of hard work and dedication.

Certified results released by the Electoral Commission on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, showed Bediako polling 18,199 votes out of 33,819 valid ballots cast. His closest contender, Solomon Kwame Asumadu of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), secured 15,235 votes. Owusu Patrick of the Liberal Progressive Party (LPP) managed just 82 votes. A total of 303 ballots were rejected.

Speaking to journalists after the declaration of results on September 2, 2025, Bernard Bediako Baidoo said, “Ebenezer, this is how far the good Lord has brought us. The confidence has always been there. It is not just mere confidence out of nothing. It was borne out of the good job we have done. After engaging the people, we read their reactions towards the message we gave them.

“We saw that it had really imbibed; they gave us hope, which has resulted in what we are seeing today.”

The by-election was necessitated by the death of Akwatia’s Member of Parliament, Ernest Kumi, earlier this year. Campaigning in the lead-up to the poll was intense, with both the NDC and NPP heavily investing resources and manpower in the constituency.
