The Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Dr. Stephen Amoah, has argued that Kennedy Agyapong represents the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) strongest chance of winning the 2028 elections, despite acknowledging former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s competence and contribution to Ghana’s economic progress.

Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News on August 26, the former Deputy Finance Minister credited the Akufo-Addo administration, under which Dr. Bawumia headed the Economic Management Team, for steering the country’s recent economic gains.

However, Dr. Amoah stressed that electoral outcomes in Ghana are influenced by more than government performance, pointing to factors such as geographical voting patterns and broader political dynamics.

He maintained that while Dr. Bawumia is a capable leader, Kennedy Agyapong stands out as the party’s stronger contender for 2028.

“I don’t think I have questioned the competence of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia before. Never. My issue is about the high probability of NPP winning or losing the election in 2028. It is not about competence. In winning an election in Ghana, it doesn’t depend only on performance.

“There are a number of factors that will actually impact; they correlate with different degrees, and most of them do not necessarily mean you have performed well or not. We have geographical voting. I have analysed these things and I think our chance of winning with Kennedy Agyapong will be higher,” he stated.
