Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to responsible and sustainable mining practices, positioning itself as a leader in Africa’s mineral sector during the 2025 West African Mining and Power Exhibition (WAMPEX), the region’s premier platform for sustainable mining and energy solutions.
Addressing industry leaders and international partners at the event, a government representative highlighted the nation’s strategic role in meeting global demand for critical minerals, while emphasizing the importance of environmental stewardship and community empowerment.
“Ghana stands at the forefront of this transformative moment,” the official said. “As the world seeks secure and sustainable sources of critical minerals, our country is uniquely positioned to respond—responsibly and proactively.”
The statement underscored Ghana’s status as Africa’s largest gold producer and a key source of other valuable minerals. Under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, the government is focused on ensuring that mineral wealth translates into tangible development outcomes for the Ghanaian people.
“We are not just offering resources; we are offering a blueprint for the future,” the representative said. “One where mining drives domestic industrialization, builds local capacity, and reinforces both economic and environmental resilience.”
The remarks came as Ghana seeks to attract responsible foreign investment and build long-term partnerships that align with the country’s sustainable development goals.
WAMPEX 2025, held in Accra, brings together stakeholders from across the mining, energy, and infrastructure sectors to discuss innovations, policies, and practices that support sustainable growth in West Africa.
With its message of transformation and inclusive growth, Ghana’s presence at this year’s exhibition signals its ambition to lead the continent in redefining the role of mining in national development.
