Government must immediately act on the rise of hooliganism in football

The member of Parliament for Berekum West Constituency in the Bono Region, Hon. Dickson Kyere-Duah has discharged his displeasure concerning the rise of hooliganism in the football fraternity in Ghana and has called on the Government to take immediate action.

Presenting a statement on the floor of Parliament, he condemned the unfortunate incident which occurred on 2nd February 2025 at Nsuatre between two major football teams, Asante Kotoko and Nsuatreman FC which resulted in the demise of an Asante Kotoko supporter by name Nana Yaw Frimpong popularly known “Pooley”

He elaborated on the regular vandalism and hooliganism attitude exhibited by some sports enthusiasts at the various sports centers which usually mar the beauty and pleasure of the game.

He added that football is a game of passion which brings unity and joy among millions of Ghanaians.

He further added that, it has become important for the need of sensitization to educate supporters on the harm such act causes to the nation

He also called on all stakeholders including football club owners, security agencies as well as members of Parliament to ensure that perpetrators are sanctioned in order to eradicate the act.

The Member of Parliament for Sunyani East Millicent Amankwah Yeboah who is the MP for the Jurisdiction where the incident occurred also condemned the act and indicated that there was no Ambulance available delaying first aid to be administered to the victim.

She called on the sports Minister to ensure that medical needs are supplied to the various stadia when there is a sporting activity.
The Speaker presiding at the time, Benard Ahiafor directed that the statement should be channeled to the Minister in charge of Sports to ensure the safety of the football people.
