The Foreign Affairs Minister says passport acquisition declined by 20,000 year-on-year after the fee increment was enforced by the previous government.
He described this as a harsh decision that affected citizens both in Ghana and abroad.
Passport fees were among the critical issues raised during a community engagement at Ghana’s Consulate-General by the leadership of Ghanaians living in Nigeria.
“We are carrying out a comprehensive review of the Fees and Charges Act, and your concerns about passport fees will be factored in,” he said.
He also assured the gathering that his office would collaborate with the National Identification Authority to begin registering Ghanaians abroad.
He used the opportunity to update them on key developments in Ghana.
“Our government has abolished the e-levy, betting tax, and emissions levy. I can assure you that the government is on course to deliver on its promises,” he said.
He expressed gratitude to Foreign Service Officers for their commitment to serving Ghana.
