Climate Africa congratulates Hon. Timothy Ataboadey Awotiirim on his appointment as Deputy Chief Executive (DCE) of the Forestry Commission of Ghana. His elevation to this key national role reflects both his experience in public service and his commitment to sustainable development.
Leadership Role at the Forestry Commission
As Deputy Chief Executive, Hon. Awotiirim will support the Chief Executive in steering the Commission’s mandate of managing Ghana’s forest and wildlife resources. The Forestry Commission is responsible for nationwide operations through its key divisions – Forest Services, Wildlife, and Timber Industry Development. The Deputy CEO position is vital to ensuring effective policy coordination, enforcement of forestry and wildlife laws, supervision of regional offices, and leadership on major initiatives such as afforestation, climate change programmes, and public education.
By overseeing assigned divisions and strengthening stakeholder engagement, Hon. Awotiirim will help guarantee the sustainability of Ghana’s forests and ecosystems while ensuring the Commission has the resources and strategies to tackle pressing challenges such as illegal logging, encroachment, and mining in forest reserves.
Profile of Hon. Awotiirim
Born on July 1, 1970, Timothy Ataboadey Awotiirim is an educationist and politician with deep experience in governance and administration. He represented the people of Builsa North in the Upper East Region as a Member of Parliament in the Fifth Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), following his victory in the 2008 general elections.
Prior to entering Parliament, he served as an Investigator with the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) between 1994 and 2004. He also contributed to education as a tutor at Christ the King JSS in Chiana. In Parliament, he was known for his dedication to accountability and his advocacy for ethical governance.
A Catholic Christian, Hon. Awotiirim is married with two children. His record in public service and his commitment to national development have positioned him to bring strong leadership and integrity to his new role.
