The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, has disclosed that since taking office in February 2024, he has not seen any of the drones procured to combat illegal mining.
Speaking during a working visit to the Minerals Commission—one of the key agencies under his ministry—Mr. Armah Buah responded to staff concerns about the deployment of surveillance drones meant to monitor and curb illegal mining activities, locally known as galamsey.
“Since I assumed office, I have not set eyes on a single drone at the ministry,” the Minister stated.
His revelation has reignited public debate over the whereabouts and usage of the drones, which were introduced under the previous administration as part of a broader strategy to combat illegal mining.
The Minister’s comments have also raised fresh questions about transparency, accountability, and the overall effectiveness of resource deployment in Ghana’s fight against illegal mining.
