Members of Parliament are demanding urgent government intervention to address the alarming rate of fatal crashes on the Kumasi-Accra highway.

This follows the tragic death of 16 Saviour Church members who were laid to rest in a mass burial in Obogu after a devastating accident on the Atwedie stretch.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Friday, August 1, MP for Asante Akim South, Kwaku Asante Boateng, urged the government to act swiftly to avert future occurrences.

“I urge the government, the Minister for Roads and Highways and the National Road Safety Authority to act swiftly and widen the deadly stretch, deploy traffic cameras and launch public education campaigns,” he said.

The MP for Asante Akim North, Ohene Kwame Frimpong, called on the government to expedite measures to ensure the good condition of the highway.

“I call on the Ministry for Roads and Highways to expedite and prioritise the various repair works and all relevant agencies to provide regular updates on their progress,” he added.
