VRA denies ownership of Helicopter in Nkawkaw emergency landing

0

The Volta River Authority (VRA) has dismissed media reports suggesting that a helicopter involved in an emergency landing in Nkawkaw, Eastern Region, is owned by the authority.

On Monday, August 11, a helicopter made an emergency landing near the Nkawkaw bypass in the Kwahu West Municipality.

Preliminary information indicates that the aircraft — a Jet A-1 with registration number 9G-AFW — was flying from Accra to Kumasi when the pilot was forced to land due to poor visibility caused by harsh weather conditions.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, August 13, the VRA clarified that it neither owns the helicopter nor operates any aviation services.

We would like to state unequivocally that the said helicopter does not belong to VRA and neither does VRA operate aviation services,” the statement read.

The authority further noted that its checks confirmed the aircraft is owned by Volta River Aviation Limited (VRAL), a company registered with the Petroleum Commission.

VRA reiterated that its mandate is focused solely on delivering affordable, reliable electricity and does not include aviation operations.

It urged the public to disregard the erroneous reports and encouraged the media to verify information with its Corporate Affairs and External Relations Department before publication.
