The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, has revealed that two of the generation units have been restored following disruptions caused by the recent fire outbreak at GRIDCO’s Akosombo Substation.

This comes amid concerns over erratic power supply after the fire severely damaged the substation’s control room, disrupting electricity transmission and evacuation capacity.

According to the Minister, the development marks progress toward stabilising power evacuation and supply to the national grid, as repair works continue on the remaining units.

Addressing the Government Accountability Series on Monday, April 27, the Minister explained that emergency technical interventions had enabled the gradual restoration of affected units.

“Through emergency technical interventions, the first-generation unit was successfully restored yesterday. This afternoon, I received confirmation that the second unit has also been brought on and is generating power. The third unit is undergoing works and it will also be brought on as soon as possible,” he said.

He added that engineers are working to restore full operational capacity, with additional units expected to be fixed in the coming days to improve overall system stability.
